When I decided to go pescatarian, I realised that I was going to have to look more in depth at my diet. Research more into foods and their benefits. I started by looking at foods that would help me sleep as I was really wanting to get into a better routine. Things such as moon milks kept popping up on Pinterest, then I started to come across hormone balancing drinks and I find the whole concept really interesting. I have for a while, after writing this post.
The main ingredients in these tended to be ‘super powders’. One that kept popping up again and again was maca powder, made from a Peruvian root vegetable. Here is a great article I found on all of the benefits of maca. I advise that you read it before introducing it to your diet as it has some really helpful advice. This recipe also includes lucuma powder, which is derived from an exotic fruit and is often used as an alternative sweetener for diabetic people.
This milkshake is sweetened with dates and banana, it can also be made vegan by simply switching regular milk for your chosen nut milk. If you do read the articles above, you’ll have noticed that these ingredients aren’t some magic fix. But consume even one of these every other day might help balance out your hormones and give you an added boost of vital vitamins. I’ve been having them as a treat in the middle of the day, because it’s nice and sweet but I know it doesn’t contain any refined sugars. This ingredients list makes enough for two milkshakes, but simply cut the recipe in half to make one.
